Russell Independent Schools team with Police and first responders to prepare for emergencies

The staff from Russell Independent Schools teamed up with Greenup County Kentucky first responders to make sure plans are in place to keep kids safe.

They met with first responders from the Flatwoods Police Department, Flatwoods Fire Department, Russell Fire Department, and the Greenup County Department of Public Safety to discuss ways to enhance school security and work out response plans should the worst happen and a natural or man-made disaster hit the schools.

According to a statement from the Flatwoods Police Department,

“Working together and preparing our school district to respond to emergencies is one of our top priorities.

“We also want to thank Dennis Chambers, Dr. Sean Horne and their staff at Russell Independent Schools for always going above and beyond the standard for keeping our students safe.”

The students at Russell Independent Schools clearly appreciate the hard work of local first responders.

Back on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 6, students at Russell-McDowell Intermediate School presented officers with a gift basket and a plate piled high with donuts.
