Police locked down Portsmouth STEM Academy just before 10 am on Tuesday after a report of a suspicious person with a gun near the House of God Church.
When officers arrived on the scene, they learned it was all a big misunderstanding. What the caller thought was suspicious people taking items from the church, was a local band who had permission to practice there.
The owner confirmed the group regularly practices there and that the microphones and amp they were spotted with belonged to them.
Officers noted it is not illegal for an adult to have a gun in the city unless they are prohibited from having one by the court.
Dispatch notified STEM Academy to release the lockdown.
