A New Boston Man is sitting in a jail cell after an investigation by the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit. This is precisely the type of investigation the taskforce was formed to conduct and the collaboration between the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Scioto County Prosecutor, and the New Boston and Portsmouth Police has led to multiple arrests since it was formed.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, the New Boston Police Department contacted his office about a child sexual assault on Tuesday morning.
The Scioto County Special Victim’s Unit dispatched Detective Sgt. Jodi Conkel to investigate. Conkel soon learned that the victim was just 13 years old at the time of the alleged assault.
Detective headed to the child’s school to interview her and then tracked down the suspect, Andrew M. Evans, 22, at his New Boston home.
Officers took him into custody on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and probation violation and transported him to the Scioto County Jail. Evans will remain behind bars until he faces a judge on Wednesday morning.
Evans pleaded no contest to a criminal trespass charge back in July and was sentenced to a suspended sentence and probation.
Sheriff Thoroughman asked that anyone with information about this case contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
