A woman who apparently thought the term “self-checkout” meant that you should help yourself to some free groceries was caught in the act at Kroger just after 2 pm.
Kroger employees reported that the same woman kept stealing from the store by pretending to check out at the self-checkout. They wanted the woman barred from the store. An officer issued a trespass order and advised the woman to stay out of the store.
Another woman thought the sidewalk in front of the Family Dollar on Gallia was a great spot to lie down. When an officer spoke to her, she said she was just resting. The officer advised her to find a better place to relax.
Troubled Man Bothers Kroger Shoppers
A seriously troubled man in the middle of a mental health crisis alarmed Kroger shoppers on Tuesday morning.
Just after 8 am, Portsmouth Police received a report that a man in a red shirt was bothering people in the store’s parking lot. Officers caught up with him near Bob and Floyd’s.
He told police he could hear children screaming inside the bricks of the OSCO property and that someone was shooting at him. At one point, he even dropped to the ground as if he’d been shot.
Officers arranged for an ambulance to transport him to SOMC for treatment.
Woman Says Someone Stole $300 From Her Lost Wallet, Video Tells Different Story
A woman contacted Portsmouth Police to report that someone stole $280 from a wallet she lost at Kroger that was eventually returned to her.
The officer checked the Kroger video surveillance system and saw the video of a Kroger employee finding the wallet and handing it off to a woman who went directly into the store to turn the wallet in.
The woman decided she did not want to make a report.
