A distraught senior citizen contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office after falling for an X-rated online blackmail scam.
The senior thought he was communicating with an attractive woman online and agreed to have explicit online chats that included x-rated videos of his privates.
However, once the scammer had a video of the man, they revealed themselves to possibly be a man and said they would ruin the man’s life by showing the video to others and could possibly get him declared a sex offender unless he paid up.
The panicked man even threatened self-harm over what he believed to be a desperate situation.
Officers responded to the scene and assured the man this was a scam and that he was in no danger of being labeled a sex offender. They advised him to delete his blackmailer from his social media and not to engage in online sex with strangers.
