Boyd County Kentucky Coroner Mark Hammond said his office is investigating after the severely decomposed remains of a man were discovered just outside the Ashland city limits on Saturday. The human skeletal remains were found in the 200 block of Elizabeth Street, approximately 5o to 75 feet over an embankment.
Law enforcement contacted the coroner’s office just before 7 pm. They responded to the 200 block of Elizabeth Street. Investigators determined the remains had likely been then there for some time. The coroner says the deceased appears to be a man middle-aged or older.
Officers secured the scene and called in the Kentucky State Police to aid in the investigation. The coroner said the remains were transported to the Boyd County Coroner’s Office and will be sent to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy and positive identification.
Hammond said the investigation is still ongoing.
