Squatters continue to be an issue around the county. The very same day that an attempt to remove Franklin Furnace squatters led to a deputy nearly drowning, PPD officers responded to a report about individuals living in a condemned home on Castle Street.
Officers were unable to respond immediately due to being required in court. At 9:30 a.m., PPD responded to the home and cited a man for trespassing. Code enforcement also cited the owner of the home.
At noon, a caller reported a group of people went inside a condemned home on Robinson Avenue. Police detained a woman at the scene and contacted Code Enforcement. Police issued the woman a summons.
Police went to another report of squatters at a 6th Street home. A caller said multiple homeless people were throwing trash in the backyard. Code enforcement was on the scene the day before, but officers notified the office again.
About an hour later, an Alexandria House resident reported three people camping out in the plaza area of the apartments. Police notified PMHA security which responded to the scene and told the individuals to leave.
