We hear a lot of numbers thrown around when talking about The Counseling Center. In Part 3 of our Investigative Series, we decided to check out their filings with the state to see how they add up.
Scioto County’s largest rehab facility, The Counseling Center, is registered as a 401C Non-Profit. Here are some important numbers according to their 2022 tax filing.
Revenue – $41.3 million
Expenses – $36.1 million
The organization spent $38 million, a full 92% of its revenue on program services.
TCC paid out close to $20 million in salaries and wages, with close to $500,000 going to its executives. (Though executive salaries were just over 1% of total expenses.)
CEO Andrew Albrecht took in around $227,000 in salary and other compensation, while COO Aaron Wagner brought in around $177,000. Senior Director Amy Gregory earned around $130,000 while Senior Director Sarah Hood took in around $110,00. CFO Tonya Berry received around $123,000.
These are decent salaries but not out of the ordinary for individuals working for an organization, bringing in tens of millions of dollars a year.
Board members of the non-profit are not paid. Portsmouth Mayor Sean Dunne, who has called for rehabs to give the city hard numbers about the number of out-of-towners in facilities, served as the board’s treasurer for part of 2022.
Charity Navigator gave TCC a three out of four-star rating. The organization earned top marks for having independent board members, the distribution of assets, and the way it handles money. However, it did get docked points for not posting financial statements on its website.
