Three men are behind bars after a vicious assault on a Portsmouth teenager on Sunday night.
According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, a caller alerted 9-1-1 to gunshots on Mathiott Street just after 11 pm.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they learned two men had attacked a 15-year-old victim on South Preston Street. The child was treated at SOMC for broken bones and other injuries.
The two suspects from the original call told investigators that two men rolled up on them in a vehicle and began making threats. They said the guys in the car stuck a gun out of the window and fired shots toward a Mathiott Street house, hitting a car parked in the yard.
After conducting an investigation, detectives located the shooting suspect in a Mathiott Street home and found the gun used in the incident.
James Keith Phillips, 34, is charged with improperly discharging a firearm into a home and discharging a firearm near a prohibited premises. He’s in the Scioto County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Jordan Huffman, 22, of New Boston, and Hagen Metzler, 22, of Wheelersburg both face charges of felonious assault and are in jail on a $20,000 bond.
All three are scheduled to face a judge on Monday.
