The Scioto Man Reports for 12/29/22

Scioto Man

It seems that everyone likes a good Florida Man article. However, ’round these parts, we have our own breed of newsmakers. We call them the Scioto Man. Here are their reports.

Asleep at the Wheel

Just after 11 am, officers responded to a request to check the welfare of a man in a gold van parked at Tracy Park.

The caller said the van was running, and the driver appeared to be “messed up.” When officers spoke with the man, they discovered he’d been sleeping. They advised him to move the vehicle.

Around 4:30 am the next morning, a 5th Street Caller reported a man slumped over behind a vehicle in front of a 5th Street home. When police arrived on the scene, witnesses said the man left headed west and that someone had picked him up. Police were unable to locate him.

Man Arrested for Drugs After Traffic Stop

A 19-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop on Gallia Street. Police pulled the vehicle over at Aldi just after 11:30 am.

Officers arrested a male teen on charges of possession of drugs and obstructing official business and then impounded the vehicle.

Police gave a woman in the car with the suspect a ride home.

Man Revived After Late-Night Overdose on Summit Street

Officers and medics responded to a report of a man overdosing in the 1600 block of Summit Street.

The man was revived with Narcan but refused any additional medical treatment. A woman on the scene said she would stay and look after the man, and he agreed to allow her to stay.

Man Arrested for 36th Time After Traffic Stop

A traffic stop led to another trip to jail for a man with a long record of arrests.

Officers pulled over a vehicle near the BP on Gallia Street and discovered that Ronald Swords was driving with a suspended license. Police took him into custody for an open warrant.

The Drug Task Force arrested the 43-year-old man back in August on charges of drug trafficking and possession of drugs and released him after two days.

Swords has been in the Scioto County Jail 36 times. Previous charges include parole violation, vandalism, possession of criminal tools, obstructing official business, burglary, domestic violence, and theft.

He was immediately released per the court.

Man Refuses To Leave Stag Bar

Christmas was not very merry at the Stag Bar after a man refused to leave the place on Sunday night. Just before 9:30 pm, officers were called out to handle a dispute between a husband and wife.

The man was intoxicated and upset with his wife. He told deputies either his wife was going to come out of the bar or he was going to jail.

Deputies managed to talk him into going home instead and gave him a ride. They also explained to him that he was now banned from the bar and would be arrested if he returned.

Police suggested that the wife spend the night with a friend to de-escalate the situation.

Intoxicated Man Makes Threats on Mabert Road

A rude awakening for some Mabert Road residents just before 1 am. They contacted Portsmouth Police to report a drunk man beating on their door.

The out-of-control intruder said his name was “Tank” and that police would have to kill him. Officers caught up with the man and served him with a no-trespass order to stay away from the home.
