Portsmouth Police Officers and Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated several theft reports, including one linked to a suspicious fire.
The owner of a Wheelersburg rental property told officers a rental home he was in the process of remodeling caught fire twice in just a few days. And that the State Fire Marshal was investigating a possible arson.
Additionally, he said that someone took several power tools and electrical equipment from the home at the time of the fire.
Portsmouth Officers investigated a variety of incidents as well:
Just before 9 a.m., a Sterling Avenue caller reported that his wife’s relative made off with half a pack of cigarettes from their porch. They said they caught the sticky-fingered man on camera. However, the wife wasn’t sure she wanted to file a police report.
At 9:05 a.m., a Micklethwaite Road caller reported someone broke into their garage. Officers took information for a report.
Police responded to Goodwill on Robinson Avenue after a thief cut the catalytic converter from one of their Box Trucks. The organization was currently reviewing their security video and said they would forward any relevant information to the police.
Just before 7 p.m., a High Street resident reported someone broke into her garage and stole her lawn mower.
