The problem of people breaking into cars around town seems to be getting worse. Nearly every night there are reports of individuals going up and down the roads and trying door handles or even breaking windows to get into vehicles to steal belongings.
Just after 5:30 a.m., a Sunrise Avenue caller reported a man wearing a dark hoodie was inside a car in the 2900 block and was not walking up the street.
Officers checked the area on foot and discovered that the thief had also hit other vehicles on the street. Police woke up the owners who said they would check their cars when the sun came up to see if anything was missing.
Portsmouth officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
Police responded to another report of a car break-in the following day at Alexandria House. The registration and title were missing from the vehicle.
