Three more people in Kentucky have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) bringing the number of people affected in the state to four. Governor Andy Beshear said the positive test results came back on Sunday afternoon. The first patient to test positive was in Harrison County. The latest cases are in Jefferson and Fayette counties with a second person diagnosed in Harrison County. As of 5 p.m. Sunday, the state has received results for 21 tests with 17 of those being negative.
The Governor said there will likely be more positive tests, but the state is ready. “We have been preparing with every minute that we have to make sure we can respond and respond appropriately.”
The Governor said four cases don’t call for closing schools and canceling public gathering but that individual affected school systems can make their own decision. Harrison County schools have announced they would close from at least March 9 to March 13.
Kentucky has all of the COVID-19 test kits it needs at the moment and can process the results in a timely manner.
Ohio and West Virginia are also able to test for COVID-19. There have been no cases reported in either state so far. So far, there have been 537 confirmed cases and 21 deaths in the U.S.
The Center for Disease Control says that older adults and those with heart and lung conditions or kidney disease at higher risk for serious COVID-19 illness. They should watch out for the following symptoms:
• difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• confusion or inability to wake up
• bluish lips or face
