Portsmouth City Service requested help from Portsmouth Police after a group of 8 to 10 people left trash all around the stage at Tracy Park.
A city worker confronted them, and they moved to the area of the bleachers. Officers arrived on the scene around 10:40 am and spoke to four homeless people. Police informed them that the stage is available by permit only and pointed out the signs posted to that effect. The individuals cleaned up their trash and left the area
At 12:40 pm, a caller reported a man on 8th Street in a blue car stuffed full of junk. The witness said the man appeared to be high.
Police had spoken to the man earlier in the day. His license is suspended and he cannot drive the vehicle. Police arranged for a family friend of the vehicle’s owner with a valid license to take the keys.
Homeless Trash Tracy Park Again
Just after 8 am, PPD once again responded to reports of homeless people setting up camp on the stage at Tracy Park and leaving trash everywhere.
PPD contacted City Service to shut off power near the stage to discourage the homeless from hanging out. Officers moved the people off the stage and once again explained it is available by permit only.
Police also reminded the people of the park’s hours.
