Portsmouth faced a heartbreaking afternoon as two residents were found deceased within just 30 minutes of each other.
The first incident occurred around 1 p.m. when officers, along with a landlord, conducted a welfare check on a tenant. Upon entering the home, they discovered the resident had passed away. The coroner authorized the release of the body to a local funeral home. It was later revealed that the deceased had made prior arrangements with members of his church for his final wishes. Friends of the man arrived to assist in handling the necessary arrangements. Firefighters and medics provided assistance as the funeral home took possession of the body.
Shortly after, at 1:24 p.m., a 911 call reported another tragic discovery. A man found his girlfriend’s son unresponsive on the floor of a Mabert Road residence and feared the worst. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed the young man had passed. Once again, the coroner authorized the release of the deceased to a local funeral home.
A sorrowful day for the community, as two lives were lost within a short span of time.
