Vet Needed Help: Portsmouth Police Offered Immediate Aid
From the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Portsmouth Police responded to Gallia Street for a report of a Vet who threatened to drive into a brick wall or off a bridge and refused to get out of his vehicle.
Portsmouth Ambulance Medics reached out to the VA in Chillicothe who agreed to accept the man. An officer completed an emergency admission form to take the man to SOMC for immediate evaluation.

Help for the Homeless
At 3 am, two units responded to a report of a suspicious person in Tracy Park. Police discovered a man with no place to go.
An officer was able to obtain a bed for the man at the 8th Street homeless shelter and transported the man there to spend the night.
Welfare Checks
- Officers responded to Robinson Avenue to do a welfare check on a woman at 1:27 pm. There was no answer at the door and her vehicle was not there.
- A worried mom asked officers to meet her on Mound Street for a welfare check on her son. His car was at his residence, but no one answered the door. He has a big dog and she was concerned about going in. Officers sent for animal control but it turned out the man was just asleep with his phone turned off.
- A Jackson Avenue caller contacted police at 2:51 pm to report a bearded man with long gray hair grabbed a little girl by the arm and carried her into a house. When officers responded to the scene the kids were fine. The man said he did pick the child up and carry her inside but not in an aggressive manner.
- Another Worried Mom contacted officers at 6:30 pm. She hadn’t heard from her son in days and was concerned due to a history of drug abuse. The man was fine, officers told him to call his mother.
