It didn’t take long for Portsmouth Police to track down a wanted man, but what they found when they finally got their hands on him left them shocked!
Officers were searching a Vinton Avenue home for David Whitby, who was wanted on felony charges out of Richland County. At first, they couldn’t locate him, but after receiving permission to search the home, they discovered the suspect hiding in the basement!
Whitby, who had a bench warrant for failure to surrender himself after a Mansfield Municipal Court sentence last year, was already in trouble. But by evading capture, he racked up a slew of additional charges:
Obstructing Official Business
Possession of Drug Abuse Instruments
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Drug Possession
Whitby was booked into the Scioto County Jail and is facing even more time behind bars. Had he just cooperated instead of running, he wouldn’t have stacked up so many extra charges!
In another arrest, Portsmouth Police pulled over a car near the Speedway on Gallia around 1 a.m., only to discover a woman with an open warrant from Lawrence County. Officers issued a traffic citation, had her vehicle towed, and transported her into custody after Lawrence County agreed to extradite her.
Lesson Learned: Cooperate or Face the Consequences
It’s always best to cooperate with authorities instead of making matters worse. Running or hiding doesn’t just delay the inevitable—it could add serious charges to your record.
The clock is ticking for Whitby and this wanted woman—it’s always better to face your charges head-on than to get caught adding new ones
