A tense situation at a Wheelersburg home ended with multiple felony charges after deputies responded to a whispered 911 call reporting a woman being held against her will.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were first called to the residence earlier in the week when a man contacted 911 claiming his girlfriend’s father had come to the home and threatened to evict him.
Dispatchers noted the caller was difficult to understand and appeared to be experiencing mental health issues. Deputies reported they could only make out portions of what he was saying. When officers arrived, the man refused to come outside and instead stood behind a closed screen door while speaking rapidly and quietly, making communication difficult.
Deputies cleared the scene after determining no crime had occurred at that time.
Whispered Call Sparks Emergency Response
Two days later, deputies were called back to the same home after a woman dialed 911 and whispered that she was being held hostage.
The caller told dispatchers the man had access to guns and had threatened to kill her.
When deputies arrived, the man exited the home and complied with commands. Officers cleared the house to ensure no one else was inside and took the suspect into custody.
James Million was arrested and charged with:
- Abduction
- Having weapons under a disability
- Kidnapping
- Domestic violence
- Aggravated menacing
He was booked into jail and is scheduled to appear in Scioto County Municipal Court on March 5 for a preliminary hearing.
As always, all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
