Why are the Flags at Half-Staff Around Town?
As we approach the 21st anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Governor DeWine has ordered that the American and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff on all public buildings and grounds throughout the state on Patriot Day to memorialize those who died.
It is in effect on Sunday from sunrise to dusk.
All Ohioans are requested to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, the time when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the World Trade Center’s North Tower on that dreadful day.
Flags are also being lowered in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday at the age of 96. The President directed that the American flags be flown at half-staff until sundown on the day of her funeral.
