Another area resident is out big bucks thanks to a Facebook gift card scam.
The woman thought she applied for a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Health and Human Services back in October.
A person claiming to be an agent of the agency contacted her via Messenger and told her she must send $1500 to get the money delivered to her door. She followed his instructions, purchased gift cards, and sent him pictures of the numbers off the card so he could redeem them.
When the money didn’t show up, he claimed there were issues with FedEx truck and that she needed to send money to get the tire fixed on the truck. The scammer kept coming up with new reasons for the woman to send money, and she eventually gave him a total of $37,000.
The woman took screenshots of some of the conversations and provided them to officers.
