Officers responded to a scary domestic situation after a caller told 9-1-1 that a man had threatened to kill a woman and her daughter. The witness said the man had multiple guns and knives and had said it would take an army to bring him down. The woman had sent a disturbing video of the man in question to family members, and they called for help.
When deputies arrived at the South Point home, they saw someone struggling to open the door and a man yelled out that he was not opening the door and officers could not come in.
Officers explained while they were there, but the man said everything was fine and officers were not needed. Deputies tried to get the door open. A woman came to the window of the door and mouthed “help me” to the deputies.
Officers forced entry into the home through the back door and detained James Kelly, who uses a motorized wheelchair. He refused to give his name to the officers. A deputy retrieved a handgun from a bag on the wheelchair.
The man’s wife said he had argued with her earlier and threatened to cut her throat with a knife before trying to hit her with his wheelchair. When officers arrived, he ordered to tell them everything was fine. She said he’d wedged a screwdriver in the door to make it difficult to open.
Offices took information for a report and transported Kelly to the hospital to be checked out before taking him to the Lawrence County Jail.
