Woman Shoots Dog on St. Rt 73
A dog running loose ended up costing multiple animals their lives on St. Rte. 73.
A woman contacted dispatch at 4:30 pm to report she heard her chickens panicking and went outside to find a small black and brown dog attacking her chickens. She tried to run it off, but that didn’t work. The dog grabbed one of the chickens by the neck, so she was forced to shoot the animal dead.
The woman said they removed the animal so the children would not see it. She requested a deputy speak to the animal’s owner.
A deputy went to the owner’s home and asked if they had a small dog. The owner said they did and were looking for it. Officers explained what had happened and let the owner know the Dog Warden would be by to see them.
At 6 pm, there was another complaint of dogs attacking chickens, this time on Big Bear Creek Road. A caller said the neighbor’s loose dogs had killed her chickens and her son’s service dog.
The woman said the service dog was killed in October and her chickens the previous week.
The Dog Warden went to the home of the attacking dog’s owner and issued citations for failing to confine the animal.
