A late-night police chase turned into a multi-agency, 100-mile-per-hour chase spanning Scioto and Adams Counties just before 1 a.m., after a driver refused to stop and tore westbound down U.S. 52. .
The Chase Begins
Portsmouth Police first joined the pursuit as the fleeing vehicle sped past OSCO, then blasted off the West Portsmouth exit at nearly 100 mph.
The driver flew past West High School and the Shawnee State Park area as speeds stayed dangerously high.
Seeing the escalating risk, Portsmouth Police terminated their official pursuit, but continued to follow at a safe distance while neighboring agencies picked up the chase.
More Agencies Join the Hunt
As the suspect pushed deeper into the county, both the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and Adams County deputies joined Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers in the pursuit. Officers continued westbound on U.S. 52 through rural stretches, passing landmarks like:
- Brush Creek Road
- Journey Hill Road
- Windy Hollow
- And finally, into the Village of Manchester
Spike Strips Seal the Deal
Adams County deputies deployed spike strips near Manchester. The maneuver worked—both tires on the left side of the suspect’s vehicle were punctured.
Despite the damage, the driver continued for a short distance before finally rolling to a stop near Lock Street.
Troopers secured the suspect without injuries, bringing the nearly hour-long pursuit to an end.
Aftermath
The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office attempted to contact the vehicle’s registered owner as the investigation continued.
No injuries to officers or bystanders were reported—an impressive outcome considering the extreme speeds, narrow roadways, and late-night visibility.
