Deputies made a disturbing discovery while investigating a report of a missing firearm.
A woman called 9-1-1 to report her husband’s gun was missing from his gun safe. She told officers she feared her stepson had taken the 9 mm weapon and traded it for vape cartridges.
Officers learned the boy was currently in the Lawrence County Juvenile Justice Center but had previously lived with his grandmother in South Point.
When officers spoke to the grandmother, she said she knew nothing of a weapon but allowed them to search the boy’s room. They did not locate the gun.
Officers spoke to other young witnesses who said the boy had the weapon in his possession.
Deputies took information for a report and entered the weapon into the stolen guns database.
