1st Grader Tragically Killed in 4-Wheeler Accident
A first grader lost his life in a tragic accident on Sunday. There was a critical injury to the adult (believed to be his father) with him.
Throughout the day, SCDN was following the terrible news. Our moderator staff kept in touch with sources and leads throughout the night. Ideally, we would have received the official police report by today. Law Enforcement couldn’t provide that information today since the investigation is ongoing.
Using our combined sources, we have compiled the following information.
A father and son was riding a 4-wheeler in the area of Doc Singleton Park, across from Dry Run Elementary School. We have been informed that they struck a section of fencing, which sadly caused the 7-year-old’s near immediate death.
In addition, the father suffered severe injuries. According to our last update, he is listed as critical, but stable.

Sciotoville Elementary Academy, the child’s school, issued this public statement earlier today.
“It is with a heavy heart that I post this sad news. One of our first grade students passed away over the weekend. In the coming days, weeks, and months ahead, let’s please keep these members of our Tartan family in your thoughts and prayers! We have extra counselors available here at school if anyone needs them. Once information regarding services is available, we will share that information as we will be closing school on that day so that we all have time to grieve this loss. We appreciate all of your love, thoughts, and prayers during this most difficult time.”
A seasoned emergency worker told SCDN that this was the “most horrible accident” they had ever seen.

After the original publishing of this article, Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman released this statement to the press.
Initial reports called into 9-1-1 advised that the A.T.V. had struck a wire which caused the operator and passenger to be ejected from the A.T.V. Deputies, along with EMS from Portsmouth Ambulance, responded to the scene.
Both the passenger and operator where transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment. Wyatt Moore, age 7, from 1802 H Kendall Ave. Portsmouth, Ohio was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio where he passed away from injuries sustained in this crash.
Jeremy Daniel Bryant, age 42, from 1802 H Kendall Ave Portsmouth, Ohio was transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Detectives with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grant Medical Center to obtain a statement from Mr. Bryant.
Mr. Bryant was arrested at Grant Medical Center on charges of Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony of the 1st degree, Child Endangerment, a felony of the 3rd degree, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence. Mr. Bryant will be transported back to Scioto County once a Rule 4 hearing is completed in Franklin County.
Additional evidence will be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury for consideration of additional charges.
