Police were called to two separate incidents over the weekend that raised red flags about children’s safety, highlighting how quickly routine situations can become dangerous.
Stranger Recording Kids on Mound Street
Around 3:30 p.m., a caller reported a man in a red Hyundai Elantra recording children as they played in a yard on Mound Street. The caller also said the same man had been seen yelling at women at a nearby bus stop. Police noted the vehicle’s license plate from the video provided but said no crime had been committed at the time. Still, officers cautioned parents to remain alert and report suspicious behavior immediately.
Baby Left Alone in Car
In a separate call, officers responded to Bob & Floyd Tire Sales after a report of a baby left unattended in a vehicle. Police confirmed a 1-year-old had been left inside while the mother visited with the child’s father indoors. The mother said she was away only for a few minutes and could see security cameras from inside, but Children’s Protective Services was contacted as a precaution.
Safety First
Both incidents serve as reminders for parents and caregivers:
Never leave children alone in vehicles, even briefly. Cars heat up fast, and theft or accidents can happen in seconds.
Stay alert in public spaces. Report any suspicious behavior around children to police right away.
Have a safety plan. If you must step away, ensure a trusted adult is always watching the child.
Authorities say vigilance from neighbors and parents is often the first line of defense in protecting children from harm.
