2021 Polar Plunge Portsmouth, OH
It’s 36 degrees outside. Let’s jump in the Ohio River!
For 22 years, the Portsmouth Polar Plunge (also known as the “James Saddler Memorial Plunge”) has been the largest “unofficial” city event of the year.
The event was started by “Smiling” Sammy Simon at the Block House in Portsmouth. A few years back, the even was picked up by the folks at the American Legion.
Greg Dillow, the current coordinator, said this year’s event is a fundraiser for the James Dickey Post 23 to benefit their Veterans in nursing homes program.
Last year, our new friend Hank Hankinson took his first plunge at the young age of 94. This year, Hank said he was watching our live stream from the comfort of his warm home. Here’s Hank from last year.
