When someone thinks “Haunted”, the state of Ohio may not be the first thing to pop into their minds, but according to a WXYZ Detroit article, Ohio ranks number two in the top five most haunted states in America. So if you’re looking for a good scare this Halloween, here are the top 25 haunted places to check out in Ohio.

Ohio University

Starting out our list is the infamous Ohio University. Located in Athens (One of Ohio’s most haunted cities), this university is home to multiple haunted residence halls and dorm rooms. If you plan on majoring in ghost-hunting, this might just be the college for you.

Ohio State Reformatory

A cruel, twisted prison located in Mansfield, the Ohio State Reformatory currently houses over 200 graves, and many of these spirits are said to still haunt the reformatory, seeking revenge for the mistreatment they endured during their time as inmates.

Kings Island Amusement Park

This may be a tough one for the rollercoaster lovers out there, but this Ohio theme park may not be everything that it seems. There’s a reason R.L. Stine, author of “Goosebumps”, has a whole book set within this park. Kings Island is said to be built on an old graveyard (Original, I know), and many specters now haunt the area.

Moonville Tunnel

Moonville Tunnel is located in MacArthur, and is an abandoned railway tunnel leading to a small town. This tunnel attracts ghost lovers mainly for the fact that, over the years, multiple train-related deaths and even a head-on collision has led to a high concentration of paranormal activity within the tunnel.

Cry Baby Bridge

Cry Baby Bridge is a bridge located in Salem, Ohio known for a string of teen suicides and cult activity that plagued the area during the 1970’s. The most notable story involving the bridge, however, involves a young woman tossing her baby into the water below the bridge. On a quiet night, some people say you can still hear the baby crying.

Lafayette Hotel

This Marietta hotel is well-known for the family of spirits that wander its halls. The Hoag Family once owned the hotel, and since their death, the family has been spotted multiple times in the basement level of the hotel, where they will harass employees by locking doors and shutting off lights.

The Old Governor’s Mansion

The Old Governor’s Mansion is a large and historic property known for housing many Ohio governor’s over the years. The building is haunted by an African American woman known as “The Blue Lady”. She is dressed in an 1800’s maid outfit and has been seen judging the decor of the mansion whenever it is redecorated. She is even reported to knock paintings off of walls and roll-up rugs that she doesn’t approve of.

The Fairport Harbor Lighthouse

Sentinel the Ghost Cat haunts the historic Fairport Harbor Lighthouse. Over the years, tales of a mysterious grey cat wandering the lighthouse have become numerous, long after a normal cat would have died. These stories became even more real when Sentinel’s mummified corpse was found in the basement of the lighthouse.

Hell Town

The area known as Hell Town was formerly known as Boston Mills until it was purchased by the government in order to develop Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Or, at least, that was the official reason. Many speculate that the true reason for the town’s abandonment was a freak chemical accident that caused citizens of the town to mutate in strange and horrible ways.

Malabar Farm

On Malabar Farm, near Lucas, a young woman named Ceely Rose is said to have murdered her entire family so that she could be with her forbidden love, Guy Berry. To this day, Ceely is said to wander the grounds where she committed her murders, perhaps looking for more victims.

Cincinnati Music Hall

WCPO Cincinnati

Built on top of a lunatic hospital, the Cincinnati Music Hall has dealt with more than its fair share of haunted occurrences. The hundreds of souls who died within the hospital now haunt the music hall. Paranormal sightings include angry whispering in the elevators, mysterious singing women, and ghosts wandering the halls.

Molly Stark Park

This park, located in Louisville, was formerly home to the Molly Stark Sanatorium, a facility used to treat tuberculosis patients. Many patients died on these grounds, and their spirits are now said to haunt the park, wailing in pain just as they were during their final moments.

Dayton Air Force Museum

The Dayton Air Force Museum is arguably one of the most multicultural haunted places in the entire state. The museum features all kinds of ghosts from Nazi Pilots to Vietnamese children who were killed by American helicopters.

Lick Road

This road outside of Cincinnati is well-known due to the murder of a girl named Amy that took place on the road. Amy was murdered by her boyfriend, and rumor has it that if you park your car on the road and wait, the words “Help Me” will be written by Amy’s ghost on the windshield of your car.

Miami University

Peabody Hall, one of the residence halls at Miami University, is said to be haunted by Mrs. Peabody, a cruel woman who will mercilessly haunt anyone who she believes has insulted her or her portrait hanging in the hall.

Majestic Theater

The Majestic Theater in Chillicothe is so famous for its paranormal occurrences, that the owners of the building have used ghost-hunting as a renovation fundraiser in the past. The main specter in the building is a little girl who is said to interfere with the theater’s audio.

The Jury Room

This Columbus bar is supposedly built on top of an ancient Indian burial ground, which has led to many strange paranormal events over the years. These events include eerie piano music coming from nowhere, people being pushed when no one’s around, and objects randomly falling.

Athens Lunatic Asylum

Like many of its kind, the Athens asylum was meant to help treat the mentally ill, but due to inhumane treatments and amenities, the building is home to some of the most restless ghosts in Ohio. The most prominent of which is a woman who died in a room that was completely closed off due to reconstruction, who to this day is said to wave out of the asylum’s windows.

Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery

This former Confederate prisoner camp led to thousands of soldiers dying due to diseases like smallpox, but surprisingly enough, the confederates don’t haunt this cemetery. Instead, it is haunted by the “Lady In Gray”, a weeping woman said to wander the cemetery and lay flowers at specific graves.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

It is currently unknown why this Air Force Base is haunted, but many disturbances, including mysterious shadows, footsteps, laughing, and moving objects strongly indicate something paranormal may be afoot on this base.

Eden Park

Eden Park in Cincinnati is home to the Spring House Gazebo, a beautiful feature that is said to be haunted by the ghost of Imogene Remus, a woman who was murdered in the park by her crime boss husband.
