The State of Oho has allocated $260,000 in grant money to help victims of human trafficking in Lawrence and Pike Counties. The money is part of a $5 million program offering grants to 30 non-profit organizations in 14 Ohio counties.
The money is intended to provide direct services to victims of sex and labor trafficking. According to Governor Mike DeWine, “This new program will help ensure that human trafficking survivors in Ohio get the specialized support they need to help take back control of their lives.”
Money goes for mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and assistance in finding jobs and places to live.
Hope’s Place in Lawrence County received $140,000 in grant money. The organization assists child sexual abuse victims with specialized medical exams, forensic interviews, counseling, and by advocating for kids in the justice system.
The Recovery Council in Pike County got $122,386. That organization provides substance abuse treatment, including residential and outpatient care and transitional housing. They offer special treatment for those who have survived human trafficking or other trauma and work toward family reunification and finding stabilized housing for families once they complete treatment.
