Local law enforcement is warning Scioto County Drivers to watch out! Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman and Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer issued a joint statement alerting citizens that 35 super and mega sized loads on semis will make their way through the county and city this March.
These loads are for the new Intel plants in Licking County. They only travel at speeds of 25 mph.
The loads are coming from Manchester via US 52 and will head to West Portsmouth for an overnight stay before heading into Portsmouth via U.S. 52. The super-sized loads will then move to U.S. 23 and travel to the ODOT Garage in Lucasville for an overnight stay. The next day, they’ll continue north on U.S. 23 toward Columbus.
According to the release, the Sheriff’s Office, PPD, Scioto EMA, OHP, and ODOT are working together to keep the traffic delays to a minimum. “However, the delays will be unpreventable and information will be pushed out on the dates of these movements once it is clear on the start dates.”
OHP troopers will escort the loads. In Ohio, a super load is anything that meets the following criteria.
- Weight: over 120,000 pounds of gross weight.
- Length: over 160 feet long.
- Width: over 18 feet in width.
- Height: over 14’6 feet in height.
