Four Southern Ohio State Representatives said Governor Mike DeWine should be impeached. All three are members of the governor’s own party. John Becker, Paul Zeltwanger, Candice Keller and Nino Vitale sponsored articles of impeachment. They even started a website: ImpeachDeWine.com.
The site posted a list of state representatives sponsoring the bill and encouraged voters to contact their reps and tell them get on board. They posted 10 articles of impeachments, the gist of which is that DeWine over-stepped his bounds and violated the rights of Ohio citizens with the COVID-19 lockdown, mandatory mask rule, and other measures aimed at fighting COVID-19. Crimes Against Humanity
Representative Vitale said, ” I have received hundreds of calls to my office, in the past 5 months, from people who have lost their jobs, cannot work, cannot feed their families or cannot get the health care they or a family member desperately needed.
Remember when all health care was shut down for 3 months because we were supposedly all going to die of Coronavirus? Well, many people are now sick; really sick. And they will need much more invasive treatment for what has turned into more serious health issues for them.”
Vitale also went on to say that DeWine should be charged and tried for ‘crimes against humanity.’
Ohio’s new speaker of the house, Republican Bob Cupp spoke out against the impeachment. “Even serious policy disagreements do not rise to the level of impeachment under our constitution.”
Local Reaction
When Scioto County Commissioners were asked about the impeachment articles, all three Republicans hesitated to weigh in. Commissioner Cathy Coleman said she’d been busy. “I worked all day and went to a meeting last night. I got home late and I’ll hold my comment.”
Commissioner Bryan Davis said he had not read the articles. “I’m sure that the House will take that up soon. That’s probably a better question for our representative.”
The normally outspoken Commissioner Crabtree kept fairly quiet as well. “I know that there were four or five members of the house who filed it. I have not read it, so I don’t have comments.”
In order to impeach DeWine, a majority of Ohio House members must vote in favor of impeachment. The Ohio Senate would try the governor with a 2/3 majority needed to remove him from office.
Local Representative Brian Baldridge said he does not support impeachment efforts. Experts said there appears to be very little support for the impeachment attempt in the house.
