Timothy McKinney is headed to jail—but not for long.
The Scioto County man pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty and breaking and entering after a horrifying incident back in January, when he allegedly trespassed onto a neighbor’s property and beat their dog to death with a 2×4. Now, he’s walking away with just a 60-day sentence—and credit for time served.
McKinney was originally indicted by the Scioto County Grand Jury following the vicious attack that left a family mourning their beloved pet. But the disturbing story didn’t end there.
Just two weeks prior to the dog’s death, deputies were called to McKinney’s home, where they discovered children living in what officials described as “deplorable” conditions. Sources say the scene looked more like a petting zoo gone wrong—complete with dogs, a pig, and even a duck—all living inside the residence. The conditions were reportedly so hazardous that deputies immediately called in both an ambulance and the county dog warden.
Witnesses said the most heartbreaking part came when the children, visibly distressed, helped load their own pets into the dog warden’s vehicle before being taken into CPS custody.
Despite the shocking allegations, McKinney’s plea deal resulted in just 60 days behind bars—with credit for four days already served. He also received five years of community control.
Even more troubling to some: child endangerment charges were dismissed without prejudice—meaning prosecutors could still refile them, but for now, they’re off the table.
McKinney is scheduled to report to jail on August 15.
