Portsmouth Police had their hands full on Tuesday all manner of suspicious goings-on, including supernatural suspects, women wielding weapons, and a young lady who accidentally locked herself into a pair of handcuffs.  We break down the highlights.

Going Batty

A Mabert Road caller reported a big fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend at 4:25 am. The woman told police the man slapped her in the face and kicked her in the stomach. She responded by chasing him out of the house with a baseball bat.

The man said she slapped him first, he defended himself, and she chased him out of the house with a bat. Officers said the woman had a red mark on her cheek and the man had no injuries. Neither wanted to press charges.

Police dropped the woman off somewhere else.

Neighbors told police that teens and adults were frequenting two boarded-up houses and causing problems. Police arrested one subject.  They said the houses needed to be boarded up again.

Knives Out

Police were called to the Gallia Street Subway at 12:14 pm for a report of a woman waving a knife at a man. The man had already headed home.

After checking with the man at home, police determined he was the primary aggressor.

Worried Sister

Just after 12:30 pm, a woman contacted police to report her sister missing. She told officers the sister is homeless and has a drug problem. Police took information for a report.

Hateful Words

Police answered a request for a welfare check at 1:15 pm. A neighbor asked officers to check on the welfare a little girl next door.

She said she heard an adult yelling at the child and telling her she hated her. She also told police this was not the first time she’d heard verbal abuse.

Police spoke with the mom and child. They didn’t hear an argument and both appeared fine.

Removed From Home

About 10 minutes later, officers had another welfare check at a different home. They went with CPS to an 8th Street residence and assisted them in removing a child.

Down The Drain

Police were called to Lincoln Street at 2 pm by a city sewer worker for a report of an angry citizen. The man had hit a sewer and was angry with the worker.

Upset citizens told police the sewer lid was off and they were afraid someone might fall in. The sewer lid was replaced.

Looking For A Fight

A man in a maroon shirt carrying a black and blue pole was attempting to fight folks on Poplar Street just before 4:30 pm.

Officers detained him and discovered he had a warrant in New Boston. New Boston Police came and picked him up.

This Is Why You Don’t Play With Handcuffs

Officers came to the aid of a female juvenile on 15th Street at 4:30 pm. The girl managed to handcuff herself into a set of handcuffs. An officer used a handcuff key to set her free.

Plowed Into Pepsi

A driver smashed into the Pepsi cooler at the Kroger Gas Station just after 6 pm. The accident knocked the cooler off its base and it was leaking water.

Police advised the driver to contact his insurance company.

Open All Day

Just before 9 pm, a Jackson Avenue neighbor reported a garage door and door into a home open all day. The neighbor said it was unusual but didn’t want to get involved.

The officer secured the door to the home.
