Ohio State Representative Bob Young, a Republican, was indicted by a Grand Jury on Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault.
Despite the charges, Young has expressed no intention of stepping down from his position.
According to a Summit County sheriff’s report, Young allegedly struck his wife in the face and threw her cell phone into a pool to prevent her from calling 911 after a fundraising party.
Young previously was a member of the Green City Council. The city of Green is in Summit County which is between Canton and Akron.
Young’s wife sought refuge in his brother’s home, where Young attempted to enter without permission and engaged in a physical altercation.
Young is currently under protection orders, prohibiting him from being near or contacting his wife and his brother.
House Speaker Jason Stephens has called for Young’s resignation, but the lawmaker remains defiant, acknowledging that his behavior was inappropriate and out of character but insisting that it was not criminal.
