The federal government won’t be sending money to Scioto County to help out flood victims. Scioto County EMA Director Larry Mullins told SCDN that Ohio EMA had let him know the state wasn’t eligible. That’s because the cost threshold for a state to qualify for a Federal Disaster Declaration is $22 million in damages statewide.
The damage in Ohio isn’t anywhere close to that mark, as most counties weren’t hit as hard as Lawrence and Scioto County.
However, Mullins says if there’s enough damage, Ohio can open up that State Disaster Relief Fund. He says that’s why it’s important for citizens to let Scioto EMA know about every bit of flood damage in our area. Especially important is information about damaged building.
“We especially need to know about structural damage. Foundations compromised, major roof damage, homes made unlivable,” Mullins said.
