Miguel Mora was more than a waiter. He was a friend.
As many of us were celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, Miguel met him. The Portsmouth area was heartbroken to hear Miguel Mora, a long time waiter at Toro Loco Portsmouth away passed away today. He had also recently opened Los Torito’s Locos of Vanceburg KY.
I first met Miguel while attending Shawnee State, my friends and I would go to eat every Thursday. He would always shake my hand when I walked in and was genuinely excited to see me. Seeing him was almost therapeutic from the stress of classes and finals. He was a man that never met a stranger and never forgot a face.
There are some fundraisers circulating on Facebook for the family to reunite with him in Mexico for the funeral. In the time of a global pandemic, it’s incredibly encouraging to see the people of the Portsmouth area come together to support Miguel. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone.
Tanner Salyers a former student at Shawnee State said, “Miguel was the epitome of the American Dream. He was kind, always remembered you even if you hadn’t been to the restaurant in years, knew how to turn everything into a party, he worked hard and had just opened his own place! Southern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky are going to miss this guy!”
