Portsmouth Police dealt with life, death, a lunchbox loaded with dope, and a missing cat early this week. Included are an officer in the middle of a scary medical situation with no PPE and a set of missing false teeth. We hit the highlights of the calls from Monday and Tuesday. (17 slides)

1

Scammed

On Monday morning, a Gilbert Avenue woman reported being scammed by a caller who said they were contacting her in regards to her Apple account. She lost $100.  Police told her there was nothing they could do.  But I’ll remind you that neither Apple, Microsoft, Google, or any other tech company will every call your house.

2

Catnapped

Police were called to Wayne Avenue at 11:30 am on Monday for a report of a catnapping. A woman said her neighbor had taken her granddaughter’s cat and refused to return it.

The accused catnapper also called police claiming her neighbor was banging on her windows. She claimed she only has her own 2 pets and nobody else’s.

Officers informed them it was civil issue.

3

Not A Good Lunch

Officers were called to the Wayne Hills Rental office to pick up a lunch box with drugs and drub paraphernalia inside that some found.

Officers impounded it. If you lost your lunch box full of drugs, make sure to give them a call.

4

Babies in Danger?

Just before noon on Monday, a woman called from Columbus to report that she’d been tipped off by a neighbor that a man had left twin babies alone in a 17th Street apartment to go buy drugs.

When officers got there the man was home and babies seemed to be okay. He told officers his brother, who looks a lot like him, had just left to buy cigarettes. He thought maybe the caller confused them. Police did note the house was messy.

5

Back to the BP

A man just couldn’t stay away from the bathroom of the BP on Gallia Street. Officers were informed around 12:30 pm that he was passed out in the bathroom.  He then went home to the Young Street Overpass.  Half an hour later he was back in the bathroom. Officers took him back to the overpass.

6

DOA

Sadly, police were called by a woman just before 1:30 pm on Monday to say that her boyfriend had died. The Coroner assisted at the scene.

7

Meanwhile at Kroger

Just after 8pm on Monday, officers responded to Kroger on Gay Street for a report of people shooting up in a car. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

8

Door Kicked In

Just after 10 pm, officers kicked in a door on Bloom Street. They were called to the scene by an alarm company that said the woman inside has pressed her pendant alarm due to a burglary. Police were told the woman was hiding from the burglar in the house.

When officers arrived, they heard her yelling for help and kicked in the door. Turns out it was a medical emergency and not a burglary. Police told the alarm company to ask more questions next time.

9

Stranger at my Door

At 10:13, a Charles Street resident reported that a man was trying to get in through her back door. When officers arrived, they decided the man might be in the middle of an OD. He was taken to SOMC.

10

They Won’t Be Back

Unhappy pizza customers got into with the manager of the Domino’s on Gay Street. Officers arrived just after 11 pm. The manager said he wanted a man and his family gone. The man said it wouldn’t be a problem after the type of service they received.

The family says they’ll file a complaint with Domino’s corporate. The manager told the family not to come back.

11

Asleep in the Road

Just after midnight on Tuesday, police responded to a woman nodding off in the middle of the street on Kendall Avenue near the Royal Inn. Police say she kept going in and out of consciousness while standing up.

An emergency squad wanted to transport her to SOMC ER. According  to the report, she refused.

12

Always on Duty

An officer on the way home was called into action when the family members of a New Boston man waved him down.

Inside their house, there was a 71-year-old man who appeared to be overdosing. He’d just been released from SOMC ICU for a respiratory infection and his wife was still in the hospital.

The New Boston Fire Department arrived at the scene and took over. They agreed that it did look like the elderly man was overdosing.

The officer was concerned because there hadn’t been time to put on proper PPE before offering aid. While rendering aid, the officer helped move furniture and move the man closer to the door.

As soon as help arrived, the officer went home to sanitize.

13

Person With Gun

Just before 10 am on Tuesday, police responded to Wayne Avenue for a report of two men shooting a gun. They were gone when officers arrived.

14

Troubled Man

Around 10:30 officers responded to the Holiday Inn after a drug rehab counselor reported that a man had made suicidal threats and refused treatment.  When police arrived, the man denied he’d made any threats.

15

Teeth MIA

Just after 5 pm on Tuesday, a woman called police to report that someone had stolen her false teeth while she was taking a nap.

Her son advised officers that his mother had some cognitive issues. She was transported to SOMC.

16

Drop By For A Bath

Just before 7 pm on Tuesday, a 17th Street man told officers he let a man into his home to take a bath. Not satisfied with just a tub, the guest also wanted to use the phone charger. When his host refused, the guest began kicking the bedroom door. The man was gone when police arrived.

17

No Need To Hide

A man who hid under some laundry because he had warrants didn’t need to bother.  Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Farley Court just before 9 pm. Initially the woman involved wouldn’t open the door. Once police got inside,  the woman told them where the man was hiding.

Both parties were arrested. Both were issued a summons for a later date and released.
