PPD had their hands full on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone who works in the news can tell you that as temperatures start to rise, so do tempers. Judging by the number of violent assaults officers responded to, that old saying is true.
The spring weather also seems to be inspiring some folks to take off their clothes. We investigate who’s angry, who’s naked, and just who has been drunk-dialing 9-1-1.
You Again?
At 9:37 on Monday, officers responded to 6th street for a report of two men in a back yard who were shooting up dope and rolling around on the ground. One of them had a warrant. He refused medical treatment and left after the police gave him a summons.
- Approximately two hours later, officers were called back to another 6th street address for a report of a man beating up a woman in a back yard. It was the same man.
- Both parties were trespassing on the property. The man was gone by the time police arrived. The woman did not want to press charges.
- Five minutes later police received another call about the same people. They were advised that the woman involved in the domestic dispute had stolen 5 bikes and two bags of tools.
- Twenty minutes after that, it was back to 6th street where officers advised the same guy to get his stuff and get out.
ODs and Drugs
- Officers were called to Vinton Avenue just after 1 am on Monday for a report of a man overdosing. By the time they arrived, the man had left on foot.
- Police were called to Grant Street just after 4 pm on Monday for a report of two men and a woman using drugs in a back yard. Three people were taken into custody.
- Just after 4 pm Officers responded to 5th Street for a man passed out at the wheel. The fire department administered aid for an OD. He refused further treatment.
- Officers found a young man slumped over a vehicle just before 6 am on Wednesday. They called his father to come to get him. Dad took possession of his son and vehicle.
Unwanted Guest
At 3:43 am on Monday, a woman flagged down officers on 20th street. There were lights inside the home of a family member. That house is supposed to be vacant.
Officers found no one inside but they did see signs that someone was staying there. It’s believed that person may have obtained keys for the home. They plan to change the locks.
Hat Attack
Things got testy pretty early on Monday morning between a woman her boyfriend in a Kendall Avenue Apartment. She called around 6 am to report that he’d smacked her in the face with a hat.
She also said he had a gun but had not threatened her with it.
When police arrived, she told officers he’d thrown the hat at her but had never struck her. He also broke the door to one of the bedrooms.
Police advised them it was a civil issue and suggested the woman begin eviction proceedings.
GTA
- Police were summoned to Kendall Avenue just after 8 am on Monday. A woman said she allowed a man and woman to stay overnight at her apartment. Now her vehicle is missing. Police took the report.
- At 1:30 pm on Monday, PPD officers took a report for a motorcycle theft from a 6th Street residence. The 2017 motorcycle was stolen from the yard. Officers took a report.
Is That A Snake in Your Pocket?
Police were called to Boundary Street at 10 am for a report of a totally naked man standing outside the Saint Charles Place Apartments.
Officers report that he was wearing shorts when they arrived. He told them he was cutting the grass and got “a snake in his pocket.”
I don’t make this stuff up, kids.
In Other Naked News
Officers were called to Gay Street just after 2 pm with a report that a man inside a business had taken off his pants. An employee made him leave. The man was now outside cussing at people. He was gone by the time police arrived.
Bad Bank Behavior
A woman was taken into custody at the Desco Drive-Thru at 5 pm on Monday. Officers said she was causing a disturbance.
Train Hoppers
In a call that sounds like a throwback to the thirties, police were called to 8th Street by Norfolk Southern Railroad to report that two subjects had hopped a train from Virginia.
Not Staying at Home
- Just after 7 pm Monday police responded to Logan Street for a report of multiple people at an empty home. Nobody was there when the police arrived.
- Fifteen minutes later, they were called to Wayne Avenue for a report of multiple people destroying a vehicle. The vehicle belonged to the man tearing it up.
- At 7:40 pm on Monday, police reported to Tracy Park for a report of a man and woman arguing.
Armed and Dangerous
Just after 8 pm on Monday, police responded to 7th Street for a report that someone busted out a window and beat on a door with the gun. The suspect fled in a red four-wheel-drive vehicle. The caller told police the suspect had headed to a Wayne Avenue apartment.
Police did not find him at the scene.
Missing Gun
Just before 10 pm, police were called back to Wayne Avenue for a report of a stolen gun. Officers checked two other locations in the search for the weapon.
Stolen Dog
Just after midnight on Tuesday, officers got a request from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to check out a High Street address.
They were looking for a woman who allegedly stole a black and white dog. The woman was not there.
Armed and Dangerous Pt. 2
At 4 am on Tuesday, police got a call from Farley Court. A woman said someone busted out her window.
Another caller reported three men were standing near the building with a baseball bat and firearms. They had threatened to shoot him. Police took a report.
Burglar with a log
An employee of the Stack N Go on Walnut Street called officers at 8:30 am on Tuesday to report a man trying the doors of businesses in the area.
He was dressed all in black and carrying a three-foot log.
Drunk Dialing
At 9:30, police dealt with an annoying situation on Hutchins Street. A house full of intoxicated people were calling 911 on each other.
Officers say there were 5 intoxicated adults inside. Apparently, three sisters were fighting. The sister who owns the home wanted everyone involved to go take a nap and sober up.
Not Without a License
Police were called to Gallia Street at 10:30 am for a report of a food vendor opening up in a parking lot. It turned out he didn’t have a vendor’s license.
Kids in Danger
Police were called to a known drug house on 18th Street just after 2 pm on Tuesday. A neighbor reported three little girls under the age of 5 outside the residence, running around half-dressed.
There was no adult supervising them. The caller said she tried to contact Children Services, but was told to call police. The children were gone when police arrived.
Things Not To Leave In A Car Volume 37
Jut before 3 pm on Tuesday, a woman informed PPD that someone took a diamond bracelet from the middle console of her vehicle. This theft happened sometime within the last month.
She reported the value of the bracelet at $4,000.
Assault Investigation
Police are still trying to untangle the truth from an assault investigation.
At 3:30 pm on Tuesday, they stopped a vehicle that was involved in an alleged vehicular assault at the Super Quick.
A report said that the vehicle was the one that hit a man. Multiple witnesses placed the women in the car at the time of the assault.
None of the women were willing to admit to being the driver, though they were willing to acknowledge that the incident happened.
One of the women said the victim in the hit and run had raped her earlier in the day. She said she was willing to write a statement. According to the officer, the statement didn’t make any sense. Police called out a detective to interview the woman.
Meanwhile at Kroger
Police were called to Kroger just after 4 pm for a report of a woman shoplifting. A witness saw her drop items from her purse on the doorstep of a lawyer’s office.
Police found shampoo and conditioner in her purse. The issued her a summons to appear in court.
Armed and Dangerous Pt. 3
Just before 8 pm on Tuesday, police were advised there 15 people fighting with ball bats on Waller Street. One of the men reportedly shot a gun and then fled in a green SUV. No one was there when police arrived.
