A sharp-eyed Portsmouth police officer turned a quiet early morning into a foot chase through city streets after spotting a man wanted on multiple assault warrants.
Just after 3 a.m., the officer saw the suspect near 9th Street and recognized him as Sean Delong, who had open warrants. When the officer moved in, Delong bolted — sprinting through a house on 9th Street and cutting over to Findlay Street in an attempt to get away.
Officers gave chase on foot and soon spotted Delong climbing into a white SUV. The escape didn’t last long — minutes later, police caught up with him in the 900 block of 9th Street and took him into custody.
Delong was booked into the Scioto County Jail on two open assault warrants. He appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court the next morning, where he was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is set for November 5.
