Accident Victims Airlifted To Hospital

An air ambulance transported victims to the hospital after a hit and run on the Scioto Trail and a neck injury at Spartan Stadium. We hit the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Good Night For A Bar Fight

  • At 2 am, a caller reported a fight at JJ’s Shenanigans on Gallia. They said there was a large serious fight in the sideyard. Police detained one man briefly but no one wanted to file charges in the fight. 
  • Police responded to a report of an active fight behind Frank & Steins Lounge. The fight broke up when officers arrived on the scene. Police couldn’t get a straight story out of the participants. Some ran away when officers arrived, police arranged for the rest to get safe rides home. 
  • Another fight just before 3 am. This time at the Speedway on Gallia. The subjects took off before the police arrived.

Victim Airlifted After Hit and Run

Officers responded to a report of a man run down on the Scioto Trail near the Four Keys Inn. The caller said the man was unresponsive. 

Police sent for an air ambulance for the victim and then began a search for the vehicle that hit the victim and took off. Witnesses described it as a black 2-door sedan. 

Police found a vehicle matching the description parked in front of a 16th Street apartment and called for a tow truck. 

Police were unable to contact anyone inside the apartment.

Mom Wants You Out

A woman contacted officers at 2:45 am and asked them to hurry to a Summit Street home. It turned out the woman and her boyfriend wanted her adult son out of the home he rents from them. 

Police advised them of proper eviction procedures.

Suspicious Activity

  • At 6:11 am, a Kent Street caller reported 2 men on bikes looking into windows and attempting to gain entry into garages.  The pair were gone by the time officers arrived. 
  • A Milldale Road resident contacted officers at 3 pm to complain about neighbors shooting off guns. Police spoke to the neighbor. 
  • Police investigated a suspicious vehicle on Harrisonville Avenue at 5:45 pm. A caller said people were hanging around an abandoned van. Officers discovered valid warrants for one man from NBPD and the Sheriff’s Office and took the man into custody.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

  • Just before 9 am, a Summit Street caller reported the tires cut on their vehicle. 
  • A Lincoln Street caller reported a package stolen from their front porch at 11:18 am. Police read a woman her rights and took information for a report. 
  • At 2:40 pm, a 5th Street caller reported tools stolen from their yard. The suspects drove a silver Nissan. 
  • The owner of a stolen truck and car discovered both of the vehicles in an alley behind Broadway Street. He told police the thieves were there as well. Police determined it was a civil issue. 
  • Big Lots on Gallia reported a woman stole a boxed mattress set at 6:29 pm.

Parking Crackdown

Just after 9 am, a Campbell Street caller reported 20 cars parked on the lot of the neighbor behind him. Police issued a summons.

Stranger In My House

A 20th Street resident told police she woke up in the night and discovered a man in her living room. When she yelled at the man, he ran out the front door. 

She said nothing appeared disturbed but her husband found a phone on their porch they believe belonged to the intruder. She requested extra patrols.

Under The Influence

  • An Endicott Avenue caller reported a man on drugs tearing up his house and causing a disturbance at 9:46 am. Police discovered the man had a warrant from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and took him into custody. 
  • Police responded to Jackson Avenue for a report of a combative overdose victim. Officers took him for treatment and then to the Scioto County Jail 
  • Officers answered a report of an overdose on Kinneys Lane at 7:31 pm.

Domestic Violence 

Just before 6 pm, police responded to High Street for a report of two women assaulted with one possible unconscious. 

Officers took a man into custody, charged him, and then took him to jail.

Can I Get A Ride?

A man called the police from O’Reilly Auto Parts at 8 pm and asked to speak to an officer about alleged threats. 

When police arrived on the scene, it turned out no threats were made. The man just wanted a ride. Police advised him they were not a taxi service.

Player Airlifted After Injury at Spartan Stadium

A player was airlifted after a neck injury at Spartan Stadium. An ambulance transported the injured party to a landing zone and then transferred the patient to an air ambulance.
