What started as a simple 911 hang-up turned into a surprise arrest after deputies discovered a wanted man hiding in a closet — armed with a knife.
Deputies and a state trooper responded to check on a caller who claimed he “accidentally dialed 911 while cleaning his phone.” When Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the apartment building, they decided to check in person to make sure everyone was okay.
At first, everything seemed normal. The resident said only a friend named “Corey” was there — supposedly lying down in the bedroom. But when deputies looked, the bed was empty. After calling out, they heard movement in the dark and watched as a man stepped out of a closet with a knife on his hip.
The knife was quickly removed for safety while officers tried to confirm the man’s identity.
The Truth Comes Out
The man first gave officers a false name and birthdate, claiming he’d been arrested before in New York and West Virginia — but none of the information matched any records. After deputies pressed further, he finally admitted his real name was Corey Hudson and that he was wanted in Cabell County, West Virginia, for breaking and entering and receiving stolen property.
Hudson confessed he had been trying to hide from police for a few days until he could enter rehab.
Arrest and Aftermath
Hudson was arrested for providing false information to a peace officer and taken to the Lawrence County Jail. West Virginia authorities later confirmed his identity through booking records and mugshots.
👉 Bottom line: What looked like an innocent “oops” call to 911 ended with a wanted fugitive caught red-handed — or in this case, red-faced — after trying to hide in a closet.
