Aggressive Dogs Menace Portsmouth Woman

Portsmouth, Ohio- Aggressive stray dogs menace a Robinson Avenue woman and an apparently drunk driver hits vehicles on Mound Street. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Under The Influence

  • Just after midnight, a Mound Street caller reported a white SUV hit several vehicles. She said the apparently intoxicated driver got out of the vehicle. Police could not locate him.
  • Police responded to Charles Street at 4:16 am for a report of a man overdosing on a drug-laced with an unknown substance. The man refused medical treatment.
  • A Young Street caller reported a man staggering in and out of traffic at 9 pm. The man told police he just tripped and was now heading home.

Suspicious Activity

  • Officers responded to the Holiday Inn for a report of suspicious activity inside a vehicle. It turned out to be hotel guests. They were vaping inside the vehicle as it was not allowed in their room.
  • A 2nd Street caller reported a man and woman hanging out in a cubby hole area of Blevins Auto Sales at 10:41 am. Despite being advised to leave, they were still there.
  • At 12:34 pm, officers went looking for one of a pair of panhandling brothers who frequently harass customers in the Big Lots Parking lot. They were unable to locate him.
  • A Walnut Street caller reported several people inside a condemned home at 3:13 pm. Officers issued summonses to both people for criminal trespass and for outstanding warrants. They released both on their own recognizance.
  • Kroger reported a woman harassing customers for money in their lot at 5:32 pm. Police told the woman to leave.

Meanwhile at The Royal Inn

Five units responded to an incident at the Royal Inn involving a woman police deal with frequently. She called 911 at 5:33 am to report her friend accused her of stealing and threatened her with a knife.

Police determined the argument was only verbal. The man agreed to leave the scene.

She called back at 6:37 am to report he was at her door. Police found the man getting warm in his vehicle and told him to stay away from her.

When police attempted to speak to her, she would not answer the door.

  • The Speedway on Gallia reported a lottery ticket theft at 5 pm. Police took information for a report.
  • A Sunrise Avenue passerby scared off a man in a camo jacket who attempted to steal something from a vehicle parked on the street. Police could not locate the suspect.
  • Portsmouth Police offered assistance to New Boston Police with some shoplifters at Walmart just before 8:30 pm.
  • The Four Keys Inn reported a TV stolen from a room at 9:53 pm. Police took information for a report.

Aggressive Stray Dogs Menace Woman

A Robinson Avenue caller reported two aggressive dogs, one white and one brown,  at her back door at 11:13 pm. She told police she planned to contact animal control in the morning.

Officers searched the area but could not locate the animals.

When they called back to the home, they were told the dogs ran off after they being scared away.
