Alan Smith, a proud US Naval Veteran and esteemed Senior Chief Engineer, passed away on October 10, 2024, from natural causes at the age of 72. Born on July 6, 1952, in Chazy, NY, Alan dedicated over two decades of his life in service to his country aboard the USS Clamagore, USS Culberra, and USS Bonefish, skillfully navigating the depths of the ocean.
After his honorable discharge in 1992, Alan transitioned to civilian life, working as an Engineer at McGinnis-McNational Inc. He found great joy and fulfillment in repairing engines and found camaraderie and purpose in various veteran organizations, such as the National office of Amvets Post 095 in Greenup, KY, VFW Post 5438 in Vanceburg, KY, and American Legion Post 76 in Ashland, KY.
Alan was a true patriot, a dedicated serviceman, and a beloved member of the community. His passion for hunting, fishing, and traveling kept him adventurous and spirited throughout his life. As a Life Member of the United States Submarine Veterans, his legacy of bravery and commitment will live on.
Alan was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joanne Smith, and parents Alson and June (Powell) Smith.
He was survived by his son, Scott Smith, two brothers: Robert and Guy Smith, and two sisters: Dixie Smith and Beth (Nee Smith) Wilson all of Chazy, NY, and many friends at the Amvets Post #095 of Greenup, KY.
Funeral services for Alan Smith will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 12:00Noon at the Kentucky National Cemetery Northeast, 100 Veterans Memorial Drive, Grayson, KY 41143; allowing friends, family, and fellow servicemen to come together and honor the life and memories of this remarkable man.
