Amanda “Jane” Jones Dickerson, 81 of South Shore KY., joined her Lord and Savior October 24, 2024, at home. Jane was born June 30, 1943, in Olive Hill, KY., to Paul and Opal (Fannin) Jones.
A 1961 graduate of Olive Hill High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Dickerson of Grahn, Ky. After Jack’s release from the Airforce in 1965, they settled in Boyd County, Ky., and then Greenup, Ky., to raise their family. In the 1970s, as if mothering two children and running a house weren’t enough, she decided to also fulfil her dream of going to college to become a registered nurse. Being the smartest member of her family, it was no surprise to us that she was put in charge wherever she worked and left a legacy in many of the hospitals in the area. She had the respect of some of the most intimidating physicians anywhere in the tristate.
She started a Cardiopulmonary Unit at Bellefonte Hospital early in her career, then decided she loved emergency medicine. After many years in the ER, she received her master’s degree from Marshall University, and she wrapped up her nursing career as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Kentucky, Ohio and South Carolina. In her retirement, she enjoyed making stained glass and artisan soap, watercolor painting, and canned lots of berries, fruit and veggies.
A talented cook, she holds the record for the best mashed potatoes in a family of cooks. In her spare time, she enjoyed church and was usually found singing in the choir, praising her Lord. In her life, she earned more respect than she ever received, and she will leave a big hole in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Inez Pinkston and Patricia Henderson, her brothers, John Cox, Glen Cox, and Paul Franklin Jones, grandson, Ryan Dickerson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack Dickerson of South Shore, Ky., a son, Rick Dickerson of Lancaster, OH; daughter Peggy (Pete) Gemperline of Portsmouth, OH; grandsons, Dylan and Brandon Gemperline both of Portsmouth, OH; granddaughter, Amber (Josh) Hargreaves of Long Island, NY as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Pastor Don Sievers officiating. Burial will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home Monday, October 28, 2024 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour on Tuesday.
