An early morning assault call in Wayne Hills took a dangerous turn when first responders discovered a fire blazing inside the apartment.
Just after 8 a.m., a man called 911 to report he’d been assaulted by someone who then took off in a black Lincoln. Portsmouth Police and EMS rushed to the scene, only to find the apartment also on fire.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause of the blaze. Police also alerted the Portsmouth Metropolitan Housing Authority to help secure the damaged unit.
Officers took information for a report, and the investigation into both the assault and arson is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
