Auto Parts That Need Routine Replacement

Auto Parts That Need Routine Replacement
ShareTweetEmail

Routine auto part maintenance is critical to your vehicle’s success. Although having no car problems sounds nice, all cars are susceptible to damage. Luckily, you can stay ahead of the game by doing frequent maintenance checks. Read our list of auto parts that need routine replacement for essential information.

Brake Pads

Each time you hit the brakes, your brake pads experience some wear and tear. As time continues, your pads will wear down to the metal. Typically, you change brake pads on an as-needed basis, but your car will screech when you need your pads replaced. When you hit your brakes and hear screeching, it’s time to have the mechanic replace your brake pads. If you have frequent maintenance and car inspections, you’ll only need to replace your pads every few years.

Battery

Drivers drain their vehicle’s battery by accidentally leaving on headlights, taking too many short drives, and operating their car in extreme weather. Your car battery is essential to your vehicle’s success, and failure to replace it will result in your engine not starting along with other mechanical issues. A car’s battery should last several years; however, drivers should annually inspect their battery for signs of trouble.

Clutch

Most clutches last for 60,000 miles, but sometimes they need replacement sooner. Certain signs, such as the scent of burning metal, are ways to know it’s time to replace your clutch. If you use your clutch gently, it will last longer, but constant “stop-start” motions will make your clutches need replacement often.

Oil

Oil is the key component of your car’s longevity and engine performance. Depending on the vehicle, you may need your oil changed after a specific number of miles. Your mechanic can also tell you when it’s time for an oil change. Skipping oil changes will cause poor fuel mileage, weak performance, and engine damage. Although your car won’t immediately stop working after a missed oil change, it’s best to get your oil changed after 5,000 miles.

Spark Plug

Spark plugs help power up your engine and prepare it to drive. Over time, your spark plug wears down and requires a replacement. Spark plug replacements vary by vehicle. Modern cars can drive for 60,000 miles before needing a replacement. Older vehicles will need a spark replacement sooner. If you notice your vehicle’s performance slowing, ask your mechanic to check the spark plug. It may be time for a replacement.

Many car owners understand the process of routine vehicle checkups. Although cruising all year without mechanical issues sounds great, it’s improbable. At some point, all vehicles need part replacements. Luckily, car owners can stay ahead of the curve by knowing the parts that need frequent replacement. If you need a reminder, always refer to our list of auto parts that need routine replacement for essential information.
