Less than a year after his last OVI case, a Portsmouth man is back in trouble—this time with even higher alcohol levels and more charges.
Police were called to 11th Street around 11:47 p.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived, they made contact with a man behind the wheel and quickly took him into custody.
After conducting field sobriety testing, officers determined he was impaired.
He was arrested and booked into the Scioto County Jail for OVI, with a reported breathalyzer result of more than twice the legal limit, along with violating a court order.
The man was identified as Ramone Lopez-Lopez.
Court records show this isn’t his first time.
Back in July, Lopez-Lopez was arrested for OVI, driving without a license, and failure to control. He later pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 15 days in jail, with most of that time suspended. His license was also suspended through July 2026.
As part of that case, he was ordered to complete a driver’s intervention program—which records show he did finish in September.
Despite that, he now faces a second OVI offense, along with additional charges including driving without a license and fictitious plates.
Lopez-Lopez appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where he pleaded guilty to OVI (second offense) and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined $715.
He was also ordered to report for fingerprinting.
The case underscores a growing concern for repeat impaired drivers—especially those already under court restrictions who continue to get behind the wheel.
