Barbara Maria Scott, 78, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family. Born on November 21, 1947, in Hamburg, Germany, she later made her home in Minford, where she built a life centered around those she loved most.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Barbara found comfort and strength in her relationship with God throughout her life. She had a deep appreciation for the simple beauty around her. She especially loved bird watching and flower gardening, finding joy and peace in nature.
Barbara was a devoted mother to her sons, Michael Scott of Mesa, AZ, Travis (Melanie) Scott of Sciotoville, and Shawn Scott of Minford; as well as her “daughter from another mother”, Rachel Shultz of Wheelersburg. She was the proud and loving grandmother to Briana Scott, Talia Scott, Mason Scott, Chaz Hamilton, and Tyler Hamilton; and several great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were a constant source of pride and happiness.
Barbara married Michael Douglas Scott on June 29, 1973, while he was with the Marine Corps in California. Their marriage lasted 32 years until his death on June 15, 2006.
Barbara is also survived by her siblings, Gayl Ziegler, Mitzi (Keith Helmick), and Michele Braud; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Sigurd Ziegler and Hildegard Ludecke Petznick, she was preceded in death by her beloved stepfather, Papa Waldemar; and several siblings.
In honoring Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be cremated, and a small family memorial will be planned in the near future. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
Barbara will be remembered for her kind heart and unwavering love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
