Bertha “Birtie” Welch, 91, of South Webster, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, at Randall House. She was born September 6, 1931, in Scioto County, a daughter of the late Gerald and Eljina (Sargent) Welch. She retired from GTE after 36 years as secretary. She was also the Clerk and Treasurer for the Village of South Webster.
Birtie was a member of the Bloom Township – South Webster Fire Dept. Auxiliary and had served as Vice President and Treasurer there also. She was a member of the South Webster Historical Society, a member of the Red Hats, a treasurer of the South Webster Jeeps Athletics and the Over 55 Club.
Birtie attended Hales Creek Baptist Church in her youth till it closed then attended South Webster Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1949 graduate of of South Webster High School and one of her proudest moments of her life was when she was inducted into the South Webster High School Hall of Fame.
Birtie is survived by a niece, Melody Hoover and husband Dean and nephew Mark Welch and wife Rhonda all of Wheelersburg along with several great nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patty Jacobs and brother William “Bill” Welch.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday November 11, 2022 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN SOUTH WEBSTER with Pastor Merit Smith officiating. Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 12 Noon to 1 PM at the funeral home.
