A local hospital calls the police on a woman who refused to leave, and a body is discovered on Baird Avenue. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Missing Neighbor
A worried Kendall Avenue neighbor contacted officers at 7 pm about her neighbor. She said the older lady is usually outside frequently but she hasn’t seen or heard from her in over a month.
She said other neighbors had not seen her recently.
Unwanted Customers
At 7:52 pm, Super Quick employees reported a suspicious man who refused to leave the store. The store previously barred him from the property. He left before the police arrived.
At 8:10 pm, an employee from the CVS Pharmacy on the Scioto Trail reported a man stole several items and then took off towards Kent Street. Officers took information for a report.
Kids on the Run
A foster parent contacted officers at 8:30 pm to report their foster child was acting up and that the child kept running out the door and taking off. An officer caught up with the child, brought it home in a cruiser, and advised the child to behave.
A Jackson Avenue caller reported her child kept running away and would not come inside. The shirtless boy was last spotted running towards Broadway. When an officer arrived on the scene, the child was in the front yard. The officer told the child to go inside, and he obeyed.
Knife Through The Window
A Mayo Street caller told police a man threw a knife through her window and broke the glass. He then took off.
Officers impounded the knife and took information for a report.
Shots on 17th Street
A Scioto County Sheriff’s Office unit reported hearing shots fired at 17th and Kendall.
The Sheriff’s Deputy didn’t find anything suspicious at the scene. A Portsmouth Officer checked the scene as well but did not find anything suspicious.
Under the Influence
A caller reported several vehicles in the area of North Hill Road with possible drug activity happening. However, there were no vehicles where when police checked the scene.
Body Discovered on Baird Avenue
Officers and EMS personnel responded to Baird Avenue for a report of an unresponsive man just after midnight.
A doctor declared the man deceased at 12:42 am, and the Coroner released the deceased to a local funeral home.
Woman Refused Treatment at Hospital
King’s Daughters Medical Center contacted officers at 1:37 am to report a woman who refused to leave the premises.
The woman told officers she had medical issues and needed treatment, though she couldn’t explain exactly what the problems were.
The woman said SOMC had also refused to treat her. Officers offered to call her a taxi but she could not provide an address. The woman left on foot.
No Place To Go
Just after 4 am, officers responded to 5th Street for a report of a woman who turned up on the porch of a home, who said she had no place to go.
Officers took her to the Royal Inn, but she did not have enough money to pay for a room. Police finally dropped her off at her mother’s residence in New Boston where she waited for a taxi.
